A1 non combustible materials for advanced building systems

Examining what we use to build our homes and work spaces has been brought into sharp focus given recent events. For the past three years we have developed a SIP panel building system that far exceed current legislation on fire regulations. Magnesium Oxide (MgO) is an A1 non combustible material that we use as the outer faces to our SIP construction kits, a single sheet of 12mm MgO has a 120 minute fire rating and our standard panels are rated for 90 minutes. 

 "Magnesium oxide more commonly called magnesia is a versatile mineral that when used as part of a cement mixture and cast into thin cement panels under proper curing procedures and practices can be used in residential and commercial building construction.

 

MgO magnesium board are suitable for a wide range of general building uses and for applications that require fire resistance, mould and mildew control, as well as sound control applications and many other benefits. As an environmentally friendly building material, magnesia board has strength and resistance due to very strong bonds between magnesium and oxygen atoms that form the magnesium oxide molecules (chemical symbol MgO).

 

Magnesia boards are used in place of traditional gypsum drywall as wall and ceiling covering material and sheathing, as well as in a number of other construction applications.” (description from wikipedia)

 

Previous uses for the material includes fire bricks in smelting plants and mortar for ancient structures. The Great Wall of China uses MgO mortar!
